Thank you for the review. Yes, as I mentioned only default theme for now. :)
If you want to see how it works with your color theme, send me your screenshot I'll add it to the mix :)
As a GIF fan myself, definitely find this interesting and fun. The design of the page definitely needs some work. Collapsing the size of the browser it degrades very poorly. As far as functionality goes, it's fairly basic, but useful none the less. Would love the ability to tweak the GIF in some way (adding text, modifying the timing, editing image, etc) and even better have the ability to post the GIF after creation, to say maybe Tumblr :) or elsewhere. Overall good work. Congrats!
Very nice design for a quick hack. Saw a few little glitches due to someone entering $100,000,000 for a deal, but otherwise seemed good there. On the gameplay side though it felt a bit lacking. As an avid player of Drug Wars back in the day, I'm familiar with the format, but this didn't feel like it had any ultimate goal and the deals weren't obvious what was going on. I would post a deal for example, but inventory wouldn't drop (bug maybe?). Then a little later my cash would go up, but it would fluctuate more than the deal I had just posted (another bug maybe?). Little more time on the gameplay side and I think you have an amusing game here. Hope you spend more time on it after the competition. Congrats!
Simple and useful with a clean design. Wish it would list the dependencies of the dependencies, but otherwise functionality seemed good.
Very excited to use this myself for a few fun projects. Seen (and written) similar solutions myself before, but the small details are what makes this awesome in my eyes. Would have liked to see more available API descriptions, but for a quick hack, this is great. Really hope you continue this after the competition. (PS I tried to signup on the roadmap page, but the form seems to be broken).
Not the most useful of hacks, but that doesn't mean it's not fun to play with. :) The algorithm for converting the images could use a little more work, but overall great job here!
Thanks! I've already thought of some ways to improve the image -> ASCII conversion process (of course, after the weekend was over).
Love the idea and would definitely find this useful, but the problem is it didn't work for me. I entered a bunch of ingredients, but nothing loaded on the right side in Safari. While I understand it works in Chrome, this is a simple enough of an app I would expect it to work in Safari too. The autocomplete also would show "evaporated milk" before milk despite me having typed all four characters of the ingredient causing it to be inserted after hitting enter rather than what I had typed directly. Despite the bugs, the design is great! Love the minimalism. Find a more memorable (and short) domain and fix the bugs in other browsers and I would definitely use this site after the competition. Congrats!
We're rill sorry about that. Our database was dropped by accident. Check back in a couple days and it'll back be up.
Thanks for the review!
Wow... this is awesome! Impressive polish on this app for a quick hack. Little rough edges (like overlapping text in some states), hence the one point off, but again, very nice job. I definitely see my knowledge of two letter words from playing Scrabble paying off here. Can't wait to see this live with more players after the competition! Congrats!
Very fun idea and pretty neat. It definitely has bugs, even in Chrome, but all around nice job. Little polish and bug fixing and this is something I think could launch soon after the competition is over. Congrats!
I see a few zombies and my (correct) position on the map, but hitting the bar along the right doesn't appear to do anything. I spent a few minutes trying, but couldn't seem to get the app to do anything. Your demo video is also impossible to follow. I would suggest talking to explain what's going on since it's non-obvious watching (and kill the overlay blocking 95% of the useful content). Good luck!
Hi thanks for your reply, totally agree about the video :S apart from that you have to play on a mobile device, the character moves when you move, so you have to walk around your neighborhood, as soon as a zombie is within your attack range (the green circle) a red bar will appear on the right, when you click it the attack button appears, it takes two strikes to kill a zombie initially, but after three kills you get a gun :) again thanks for your comments all the judges feedback has been very valuable.
Thanks for the reply. That is definitely useful information to know as I didn't understand when trying it. Makes sense now.
I felt this one had more design / interaction polish than other Star Invaders-esq games I've seen during this NKO, but I didn't seem to find a "end game" state even after playing for a few minutes. I did find the heuristics used in the firing target selection pretty interesting. Not sure why, but in Chrome 23 for me it doesn't seem like in your demo video (the worlds aren't moving and there isn't multiple other shooters). Add some levels and a game over state and this could be a amusing game.
In the modern age of status update overload, this definitely seems like a useful idea. My concern is in what it picks to highlight and how it learns from what I liked in the past. I didn't see any improvement over what Facebook already does with their filtering to bubble up what might be interesting. The design is also a bit spartan, so my guess is that the majority of the time was spent on the algorithm. Unfortunately I can't see the logic to know if it gets better at suggestions over time. Keep iterating on this and I will be interested to see where it goes. Congrats!
Very neat idea and as a big fan of GIFs, this hit home for me. Admittedly, I don't see this having a lot of utility, but was a lot of fun to play with and had great novelty factor. Integrate this with a "Post to Tumblr" button and I can see a lot of people using it. :)
I loved the usage of the mobile device as a controller and having the desktop as the monitor. Also a fun take on the classic Space Invaders style game. My issues with it were that the control seemed rather unpredictable and as best as I can tell, there was no way to turn the firing direction (might be intentional). I think that should be a feature personally if you intentionally left it out. The design could use a bit more polish, but outside the game play issues this seems to be fun. Congrats!
This is pretty awesome and great work for a quick hack. The UI lacks a little polish, but otherwise this is something you could launch almost immediately. I think this would have been extremely useful in NYC during Hurricane Sandy for example. Hope to see this out in the wild after the hack judging finishes. Congrats!
Great addictive gave! The accelerometer seems a bit touchy for me, but otherwise a ton of fun. The design has a few rough edges (not sure I would have picked as dark a board for example), but otherwise great. I ticked off one point on the completeness side as it seems the only way to restart a game is to refresh the page (which makes you click through the instructions again).
This could be an extremely useful app for many development teams once it's completed. Unfortunately, seems like you guys need quite a bit more work before it's finished. The homepage design is great, but you can see the design polish drops off as you get deeper into the application and things became more rushed. One design issue I especially took note of is that the delete button is right next to the start "game" button and has no confirmation. Due to the small size of these buttons, I can see a high potential for someone to mistakenly click there. I was really hoping to see the game area to be more complete as that is the main point of the app, but otherwise good job. Congrats!
Great job! Fairly elegant solution to a common age old problem of needing a feedback form on your site. This has pretty great utility, but admittedly isn't the most "fun" and definitely not innovative. Design looked pretty good and it has a nice minimalistic look. I deducted one point on the completeness side because of the inclusion of the CSS as a separate line in the markup you put into the site. IMHO, this should be done dynamically via the JS.
Definitely useful and fun if you are the type of person who would use this when playing against someone in Letterpress. The design mimicked Letterpress's minimalism well and looked good. I knocked down on completeness as it didn't offer up any suggestions to speak of based on my screenshots I used. I wonder if it's due to me using a different color theme, but either way, will ultimately need to support that. Part of me hopes you will finish this out and launch it after the competition as this is awesome, but I also kinda hope you don't make it easier for others to compete against me. I selfishly quite enjoy my lead... :P Great work!
